I recently attended a class in Miami with the Godfather of Hair, Garren. Garren is co-founder of the collective known as RandCo. This amazing line has changed the rules of hairdressing and hair styling. Garren has worked on legends like Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
This intense class took place over two days and was limited to 36 students. Day one was a lead by Robert Vasquez, a stylist who has assisted Garren for several years. A few foundations and expectations were laid out. It was more of an overview of what to expect on day two. We learned how to set a style that could be transformed to many other styles over the period of a photo shoot. We then had hands-on time to practice what we had just learned.
Day two was more intense as we learned from the Godfather of Hair himself. We learned more about how to set hair that could be manipulated into many looks for a photo shoot. After working on our models, we were able to shoot them under Garren’s skilled eye. He was blunt, but insightful as he directed us in the photo shoots. I was in awe as he pointed out my own mistakes, because he did it with such authority and was never condescending.
The experience was completed by the great students I was in class with. I met and worked with some very dedicated stylists that motivated me to push my game even further once I got home. I can't wait to go back in January for more advanced training!
