Eugene plus Color equals Dramatic Results

Even as a stylist I get bored with hair.  No, not my clients’ hair, my own.  I ask myself all types of questions?  What do I do now?  Do I grow it out?  Do I shave it again?  Do I go brown with some highlights?  How about a keratin treatment?  The list goes on and on…

A few months back, I noticed a friend and fellow stylist, Heidi Garrett (IG Heidimariegarrett), was going a bit crazy with her hair color.  Uh, Hello!  Before and after, anyone?

Now, everyone has a different version of “crazy”.  I mean, you have to remember - she is a stylist, so “crazy” could be her norm.  Right??  Not even close.  Let me explain - She is like me: pretty “vanilla” in terms of changing her hair color.  Yeah, I would rock different lengths, but my color pretty much stayed the same.  I had briefly chatted with her about trying out a new color on myself and she was game, but I was still hesitant.  What color would I really do?  Pink?  Purple?  Red?  Could I pull it off?  I had always been a brown, or when I got real crazy, a lighter brown.  (Watch out now!!)  Heidi had been working on some projects out of the country, so I didn't feel the pressure to make up my mind, just yet.  After her return, I asked her again about doing my hair.  She informed me she was working on turning her focus toward special events and not being behind the chair as much.  I understood completely.  You see, sometimes in our field, you have to refocus.  However, since she and I had talked about my “big hair change” for so long, I had it set in my mind that if and when it happened, she would be the one doing it.  Well, last week I hit her up, just to talk shop.  After all, Heidi is one of those people who is always happy to talk shop and exchange ideas.  During the conversation, I brought up doing my color.  She said she would go ahead and do it, as this would give us some time to really talk and catch up.  She also informed me that she wanted to do blue (!!), something I had momentarily brought up before, but was reluctant to pursue.  I semi-enthusiastically agreed.  I figured, I might as well....

So, we met up and got right down to business. Heidi bleached out my hair, gave me a nice dark false root and stunning blue hair on top.  Guess what?!  I LOVE IT!  Though I am pretty reserved concerning my hair, I don't feel like I went overboard at all.  The reality of it is - it is just hair and I can change it over and over again, anytime I desire.  If you have been wanting to do something fresh and new, but have been afraid to, my advice is to just go for it!  What is the worst thing that can happen?  You don’t love it and you change it back.

Nana's Cinnamon Tea

We all know how important it is to get enough fluids in our system on a daily basis, especially water.  If you are like me, the thought of 64 oz of plain water is not very exciting.  Because of this, I wanted to find an easy way to make sure I was consuming enough water each day.  I decided I needed a flavored water if I wanted to drink more of it.  Since I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners, those water flavor packets were out of the question.  I then thought of "Cinnamon Tea", a tea my Nana would make me when I was younger.  Obviously, I wasn't going to be walking around with a hot drink in hand every day, so I wondered how it would taste iced.  My thought process was - not only would I be consuming more water, but I would be getting the benefits of cinnamon, too!  If you aren't aware, cinnamon is a great tool to boost  your immunity, as well as your metabolism.  The best thing about this recipe is it only requires 2-3 ingredients!

"Nana's Cinnamon Tea" Recipe

Ingredients:
(2) Organic Cinnamon Sticks
Local Organic Honey (Optional)
Water

Directions:
  1. Bring a few cups of water to just below boiling temperature and turn off the heat.
  2. Drop in two long cinnamon sticks and cover with a lid.  (Since I always try to shop local, I purchase my organic sticks from Clark's Nutrition & Natural Foods Market, located in Riverside).
  3. Let the sticks sit for about an hour.  (If you wish to sweeten the tea, use local organic honey.  You will need to add the honey while the water is still warm).
  4. Once cooled, place the water in a 2 liter pitcher and fill to the top with cold water.
  5. Serve over ice or take on the go by filling up your Eco-friendly water bottle.

Congratulations, you now have cinnamon tea!  Once the tea is chilled, it is absolutely delicious. I hope you enjoy my Nana's Cinnamon Tea Recipe.  If you do make some, please leave a comment and let me know how your tea turned out.

Balayage: Hair Coloring Technique from France

9/11/2013

Earlier this week, I took a class on Balayage using Solaris Clay Bleach, a specialty hair product from France.  Balayage is a customized hair painting technique that guarantees each and every  client a one of a kind look.  The end result is the client's hair has a naturally highlighted look, ensuring a seamless grow out.  The process takes a bit longer than traditional foil highlights, but the extra time is well worth the wait.  The end results are AMAZING.
